Vending Machine at Las Vegas Makerspace, SynShop

While I lived in Las Vegas, I was a member of the local makerspace, SynShop. There, someone had donated a broken vending machine. We decided to replace the electronics with newer relays and a Raspberry Pi computer. There was a need to provide parts and kits to members, and getting this machine online and accepting credit cards would be a big help. For the display, we used a local webserver and a headless chromium browser.

This was a gift to my niece. She's a Star Wars fan so I got her a R2D2 hoodie and sewed some NeoPixel LEDs around the inside of the hood, conencted it to a wearable Arduino and ran a program to light it up.

Pulsing Heartbeat T-Shirt

You know the classic idiom, to wear your hear on your sleeve. This was an artistic and technological take on that. I took a classic white T-shirt and printed an 8-bit heart on it. I put some NeoPixel LEDs on the underside and connected an Arduino microcontroller and heartbeat sensor. This T-shirt reflects the user's heartbeat to the public. Quite literally, wearing your heart on your sleeve shirt.

Gardening has always been an issue for me. I'm always traveling and when I skip a weekend of gardening care - my plants die! The big idea was to keep plants watered and fed automatically. I used a microcontroller for soil moisture sensing and water relay control, connected to a Raspberry Pi for internet access, to control water and light schedules and monitor metrics.

Touchscreen Coffee Table

I wanted to get into woodworking and this was a project I had in mind for a long time. Having a touchscreen in a coffee table allows me to look things up while I watch TV, or search for information while I play video games. I was able to make it the way I wanted, with drawers, the table top lifter and even a built-in electrical outlet.

I have a 3D printer and on occasion, I need to design something for myself. This is a collection of models I've designed that I've made public.
